Literature at Jasna: Meeting with Kim Leine
Literature at Jasna is a series of regular literary meetings intended to present European literature to Poles, promote cultural exchange and foster better understanding between residents of the European Union.
The next author visiting is Kim Leine presenting his third novel The Prophets of Eternal Fjord, which is a fascinating story of a missionary whose aim is to convert the Inuit to the Danish church based on authentic events.
According to Liz Jensen from The Guardian it’s an astonishing, hallucinatory journey into the frozen heart of Denmark’s colonial darkness. Kim Leine’s bestselling and award-winning novel has undeniably evoked disputes over interpretation of the country’s colonial history.
Kim Leine (1961) was born in Bø, Norway, lived and worked in Greenland for 15 years. In 2013 he won Nordic Council’s Literature Prize for The Prophets of Eternal Fjord.
The Prophets of Eternal Fjord has recently been translated into Polish by Justyna Haber-Biały and Agata Lubowicka and published by W.A.B. Publishing House in 2016. The translators will also attend the meeting.
Danish Cultural Institute in Poland together with The European Commission Representation in Poland organize the meeting with the author and reading from his book. It takes place on February 7th at 18:00 o’clock at The European Commission Representation’s headquarters.
