Kechut: Memory Under the Water
Through the New Democracy Fund in 2023, we supported the research project “Kechut: Memory Under the Water,” developed by our partner CSN Lab in Armenia.
The project focuses on the Armenian village of Kechut and the local inhabitants who were displaced because the Soviet authorities built a reservoir that submerged the village underwater. It’s a story that hasn’t been extensively explored before, so the project aims to shed new light on the past. “Kechut: Memory Under the Water” documents how the experience was traumatic for the local population, affecting their identity, local culture, and environment.
