Danish Cultural Institute in Brazil celebrates 10-year anniversary with DANSK!!BR festival
From October 9th to November 11th, Danish Cultural Institute in Brazil celebrates its 10-year anniversary with the DANSK!!BR festival, at Cidade das Artes in Rio de Janeiro.
The festival will consist of shows, concerts, film showings, dance performances, debates and gastronomy. The attendants gets access to current cultural ties between the two countries.
The band BaianaSystem, DJ Rumpistol, digital artist Mutti Randolph and chef Simon Lau are among the national and international names, taking part in the festivities.
DANSK!!BR at Cidade das Artes
At 19.00 on November 9th the first edition of DANSK!!BR opens at Cidade das Artes – celebrating 10 years of DCI presence in Brazil.
Among other things, the program will provide examples of art projects developed by DCI, like CineKlap and Danca DK. “Orelhao” – a three-year project focused on experimental music – will also be introduced.
During the weekend, people can also experience the culture from the Nordic countries in the Hygge Lounge, with craft beer, coffee and typical Danish cuisine prepared by chef Kamille Plon Santos.
Young VJ’ing talents can participate in a “Mapping Challenge”, a creative competition about digital art. The acclaimed Brazilian digital artist Mutti Randolph will be among the judges, and the winner will get a residency stay in Denmark, in 2019.
BaianaSystem and Rumpistol
BaianaSystem is one of the most talked about Brazilian bands at the moment. They mix Jamaican music with baian guitar to create samba-reggae and ijexa rythms. The group also mixes other Afro-Latin rythms, such as MÅF, afrobeat, cumbia and pagode. Danish producer Rumpistol will add an extra dimension for the show.
CINEKLAP – Danish film screenings
Under the direction of Tatiana Groff, the film festival CineKlap will present four Danish documentaries. “Big Time” follows 6 years in the life of Danish architect Bjarke Ingels; “Mand falder” (Man falling), about the accident that struck the Danish artist Per Kirkeby; “Olafur Eliasson – Space is Process”, about the creative process of the artist; “Møbler til tiden” (Furniture for the times), about one of the biggest names in Scandinavian furniture design, Børge Mogensen.
Babette’s Feast – food, music, literature and Danish film
Marking the fact that the movie “Babettes Gæstebud” (Babette’s feast) won an Oscar for best foreign language film in 1988, DANSK!!BR includes two dinners. The menu will be the same as the famous one served in the movie, recreated by prize-winning Danish chef Simon Lau for 150 guests. During the two dinners, parts of the book that the movie is based on will be read aloud.
Rumpistol – Danish producer and DJ
One of the biggest names in Danish electronic music, since 2003, Jens B- Christiansen has produced electronic music under the name Rumpistol, producing six albums, three EP’s and many remixes with artists liek Efterklang, System, Indians and Blue Foundation
Rumpistol has performed at music festival across Europe, North America, Mexico, China, Russia and Brazil. In 2015, he collaborated with digital artist Mutti Randolph, and his music was part of the opening ceremony for the Paralympics in Rio, 2016. At the festival he will also be participating in the performance by BaianaSystem.
Muti Randolph – Brazilian digital artist
One of the biggest names in Brazilian digital art and design. Created a show for the opening of the Paralympics, 2016, which incorporated music by Rumpistol.
CRASH! – a dance performance
Crash! is a poetic and humorous modern dance performance, created by Danish choreographer Stephanie Thomasen, and performed by seven Brazilian and seven Danish dancers. They will promote dance workshops and debates at DANSK!!BR.
Andreas Borregaard – well-regarded accordionist
DANSK!!BR will be the occasion when Andreas Borregaard, one of the best-regarded young accordionists of the world, visits Brazil. He will present several compositions created for him by the biggest Danish composers. Andreas will play solo and together with Quarteto Camargo Guarnieri (SP) he will perform “Dancers & Disappearance”, a new piece by Danish composer Bent Sørensen – winner of the world’s most biggest award in the world, the Grawemeyer Award, in 2018.
DJ MAM Copacabana/Copenhagen-connection
DJ MAM has been part of big Brazilian events like New Year’s Eve on Copacabana and since 2014 he has collaborated with Danish artist, such as Kenneth Bager and Pharfar. In 2015, he played at Roskilde Festival. At DANSK!!BR, DJ MAM will present his new music, influenced by his relationship with Denmark.
BrincaCidade
A movement committed to raising a living city, prioritizing childhood, and understanding education in a broad sense, not restricting it to the school, but in different spaces, in meetings and in relations. In accordance with central concepts of Danish pedagogy, children, family, free play, learning and connection to the public space of the city are all taken into consideration. Activities at DANSK!!BR will be picnics, games and workshops.
Oficina Live Art
The Live Art project has existed since 2004, and has been part of 13 big international festivals and other events aimed at children and their families. At the festival, Henrik Vestergaard, artist and choreographer, will speak on different artworks and artists.
The workshop is open for all.
Virak Revy
“Virak Revy” is a show which combines music, dance, theater and words, into a performance for the whole family. Henrik Vestergaard will arrange the show.
