Boy Choir of the Glinka Choir College visits Nordic Countries

In March 2018 the Boy Choir of the Glinka Choir College visits Denmark, Finland & Sweden as part of the international project of the Danish Cultural Institute to promote classical choral music in the Baltic Sea Region.

Music unites youth across the Baltic Sea – Nordic visit from the Boy Choir of the Glinka Choir College

One of the best Russian boys’ choirs will perform together with “Cantores Minores” in Helsinki Cathedral, with Stockholm Academic Male Choir in Stockholm at the House of Nobility (Riddarhuset) as well as at Uppenbarelsekyrkan, with the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir at Copenhagen Cathedral (Vor Frue Kirke) and at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Denmark. The concerts will feature fragments of “The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom” by Sergey Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) & Pavel Tsjesnokov (1877-1944) as well as popular & Russian folk songs under Artistic Director and Conductor, Honoured Artist of Russia, Vladimir Begletsov.

The purpose of the project is to strengthen professional cultural networks of Nordic and Russian choir schools, initiate exchange programs and share best teaching and managerial techniques through concerts and workshops. The project will contribute in supporting artistic initiatives, study processes in music education through the dialogue between cultures, and promote Nordic and Russian interest for art, culture, music, and language in the Baltic Sea Region.

Earlier in October 2017, Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir visited St. Petersburg. Their concert in the Capella and St. Isaac’s Cathedral were organized in cooperation with the Glinka Choir College with great success. The further idea is to initiate St. Petersburg International Festival of Boy choirs and invite Danish, Finnish and Swedish choirs in autumn 2018.

The Boy Choir of the Glinka Choir College

The Glinka Choir College is the oldest professional academic institution in Russia. Its roots date back to 1479 when the Sovereign’s Chorus of Singing Scribes (founded by Grand Duke Ivan III of Moscow in 1476) opened its Chorus of Young Choristers. The Young Choristers took part in celebrations to mark the founding of the new capital of the Russian State in 1703, and the subsequent history of the ensemble has been forever linked with the history of St. Petersburg.
