SLOW – Woven Images
In April 2024, the exhibition SLOW opened in our Cultural Center in Beijing. The exhibition consists of 11 woven artworks, all made by artist Martin Nannestad Jørgensen.
The Danish textile artist Martin Nannestad Jørgensen was born in 1959, and has been trained at one of the finest workshops in Denmark under Kim Naver, the most recognised textile artist of her generation. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and public commissions.
It takes Jørgensen between 6 months and a year and a half to create images. The largest image, Punchdrunk, is almost 17 metres long and industrially woven in Belgium. The rest of the images are made by Martin himself at his weaver in Copenhagen. Here he spends enormous amounts of time weaving and hand-dyeing the yarn to give the images nuances and depth.
Slow has captured public attention with several days have seen more than 2000 visitors together with significant Chinese media coverage.
