Kathrine Windfeld Tour and Residency in Brazil

Danish pianist, composer, arranger, and big band leader Kathrine Windfeld visited Brazil to create and present new inspiring Danish-Brazilian artistic collaborations in jazz.

Danish Cultural Institute, in a collaboration with Savassi Festival and SESC São Paulo, invited pianist, composer and arranger Kathrine Windfeld with drummer Henrik Holst Hansen to Brazil for a tour of concerts and artistic collaborations. The project is built upon Kathrine Windfeld Sextet´s successful participation at the 2021 online edition of SESC Jazz Festival. Activities included concerts with large and small ensembles, new compositional collaborations, masterclasses, and network meetings, carried out at two of the leading jazz festivals in Brazil, South America´s biggest music market.

First stop was at the Savassi Festival in Belo Horizonte, where she and Danish drummer Henrik Hansen performed with the 13-piece Big Band “Big do Clube” featuring the new artistic collaboration with prize-winning Brazilian guitarist, composer, and band leader Felipe Vilas Boas. Later, the Danish-Mineiro collaboration toured the SESC Jazz Festival in São Paulo, with the big band and a quartet consisting of Vilas-Boas, Windfeld, Brazilian bassist Bruno Velozzo and drummer Hansen.

On the tours Windfeld and the big band presented 2 fresh original arrangements, commissioned by the Savassi Festival.
