Jan Gehl talk and exhibition in Vilnius

Jan Gehl visits Lithuania for the first time to give a talk in Vilnius – the exhibition “Changing Mindsets” opens in the city

Danish architect Jan Gehl, who has influenced changes in urban environment world-wide, through his research, has visited Lithuania for the first time. In the capital Vilnius, he gave a talk at the National Gallery of Art, before the exhibition “Changing Mindsets”, about Gehl’s work, opened.

Over the course of his career, starting in 1960, Danish architect Jan Gehl has done endless research into the ways people actually use— or could use — the spaces they live and work in, leading to actual changes of space as well as mindsets world-wide. His books, from “Life between buildings” (1971) to “Cities for people” (2010), are available in more than 35 languages and have become must-reads for any urban strategist today.

In his talk, Gehl described the journey from conception to actual delivery of livable cities, with a focus on Copenhagen and Vilnius.

The talk was organized in collaboration with Laimikis.LT, laboratory for urban games and research.

The talk took place on October 25th in the National Gallery of Art. On the same day, the exhibition “Changing Mindsets” opened, at the National Gallery. It is dedicated to Jan Gehl’s seminal work as a theorist, researcher and writer of human behaviour in an urban context.

The lecture by Jan Gehl and the exhibition have been organized in a collaboration between Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, The Embassy of Denmark in Lithuania and the Danish Ministry of Culture as part of Denmark’s celebration of Lithuania’s centenary.
