RagaJazz (DK/IN) at the Cultural Summit Mors
What does it sound like, when you mix Indian classical music with contemporary jazz traditions?
In collaboration with Live Music in Schools (LMS) and with support by Air India Denmark, DCI had invited the Danish/Indian band RagaJazz to play concert at the annual Cultural Summit at Mors, 23-25 August 2018. After the concert followed a conversation “The Road to India” on how our two countries cultures and arts can inspire each other, and Director of Danish Cultural Institute in India, Thomas Sehested, introduced his ideas for the coming Institute in New Delhi.
Based in Mumbai, Kolkata, Copenhagen, New York and San Francisco, the members of RagaJazz represent a new generation of musicians with a global perspective and a creative approach to interaction between musical and cultural traditions.
Four of the members of the band visited Mors and gave an intense concert, introducing the Danish audience to a creative interaction of traditions and cultures.
RagaJazz at Mors consisted of: Lars Møller (tenor sax), Thor Madsen (guitar), Abhijit Banerjee (tablas), Jonas Johansen (drums).
RagaJazz is unique in its authentic and innovative approach to combining the depth and essence of jazz and Indian classical music.
Concerts for Kids
Before giving concert at the Cultural Summit, Lars Møller and Abhijit Banerjee traveled to Nykøbing Mors to perform five school concerts in collaboration with Live Music in Schools (LMS) at schools in the neighborhood of the Summit.
Through music school children learn about Indian music and culture, and how a global perspective is necessary for mutual inspiration and learning, and give a deeper understanding of each other and your own culture.
